New Commercial Waste Collections Delayed by Bag Shortage

moorwell dump with truckThe Council’s controversial new commercial waste collection system failed to launch yesterday because the Town Hall didn’t get enough bags in time.

So they’re going to pause its introduction for one week.

At the end of March, some islanders told us they were unable to purchase the sacks, which cost £3 for normal waste and £2 for recyclable material, because the Authority had run out.

We raised their concerns with the Council and a few days later they issued a statement saying that the sacks would arrive in time for the launch of the scheme. It was meant to start yesterday.

But the Council now says the Bank Holidays have disrupted the introduction of the scheme so they’ll start it next Monday instead.

Businesses who take commercial waste to refuse sites on the off-islands will also need to buy the bags.
