Why A New Swimming Pool On St Mary’s May Be A Good Idea

Today on Maggie’s Moan on Radio Scilly, Maggie Perkovic raised the topic of a new swimming pool at Carn Gwavel. Why is it needed? 5 years ago the Council said the Normandy Pool conversion and upgrade was a success. Maureen Carter of St Mary’s has offered 6 points which support further investigation into the feasibility of building a new pool nearer to town.

1-Buzza bus doesn’t always run when the pool is open so expensive if you need to get a taxi
2 you’ve got to be fit to walk there and back and swim
3 the changing room isn’t big enough
If there are more than three or four women wanting to get changed at the same time.
4 it’s difficult to swim if there are more than five or six people in the pool wanting to do lane swimming.
5 that’s just with local people and not counting visitors who might want to use the pool.
6 I think it’s because of its success that a larger pool is being proposed.

What’s your view?
