Council Runs Out Of New Trade Waste Sacks

town hall windows signThe Council is hoping more rubbish sacks will arrive on the islands in time for the start of their controversial new trade waste collections.

From 6th April, only waste placed in the special Council-branded bags will be taken away.

The Authority has urged businesses to buy the bags before the start of the scheme. They cost £3 for general waste and £2 for recyclable material.

But Radio Scilly has heard from several business owners who have been turned away from the Town Hall when they went to purchase the new sacks.

They were told they’d run out.

The Council says they’re accepting pre-orders from customers, so that as soon as the sacks arrive they can be allocated without delay.

And they say there will be enough for anyone who requires the bags.

What us so special about these waste bags? Can they be purchased from the mainland instead?
