Scilly’s school musicians have returned from the Cornwall Music Festival with four trophies. And music teacher Jane Pender says they achieved success in the face of stiff competition, as the standard seems to have “gone up a notch” this year.

Sophie Poat was winner in the Woodwind Solo category for Grades 3 and 4, while Remy Lewin was judged best in the Saxophone Solos for the same grades.

Inca Reynolds came top in the Grade 5 and 6 Saxophone Solos.

Becky Smith and Jevon Hughes took the Duet up to and including Grade 4.

Music teacher Jane Pender says the school was placed second in five different classes and third in four others.

Jane wants to thank Helen McGuinness, Sara Symons and St Mary’s Choral Society for their support and assistance in helping the pupils attend the annual event.
