Marked Increase In Scilly Tourism Enquiries

visit isles of scilly website 2014The Islands’ Partnership has recorded a marked increase in enquiries about visiting Scilly.

The growth in booking requests and website visits echoes an upward trend in tourism.

Earlier this month the Council said they expected airport passenger numbers to rise by 4.8% this year to 97,500.

Amanda Pender of the IP says there were 5,013 distinct requests for the 2015 brochure made in January and February.

That’s a 52% increase on the 3,200 received over the same period last year and a significant rise on the 1,607 requests made during those months in 2013.

Amanda says it’s not just the work of the IP that have led to increased enquiries, but the efforts of everyone on the islands, particularly those embracing the new digital platforms.

There’s an average 30,000 visitors to VisitIslesofScilly.com each month and the number logging on between Boxing Day and 25th January was up 45%.

Amanda says a lot of those are new users.

The Islands’ Partnership has hosted their first visiting journalist of the season this weekend.

Wendy Johnson of Women’s Own magazine has visited Polreath, Scilly Seal Snorkelling, the Bakery and Faye Page jewellery on St Martin’s on Saturday and Tresco on Sunday. She’ll cover St Mary’s from her Star Castle accommodation.

Her article, Scilly in the Springtime, will be published in April.

Amanda says this is the first of around 30 press trips planned this season.
