Scilly’s Churches Organising Tresco Retreat

Cromwells tower trescoSenior religious leaders on the islands are organising their first Parish Retreat Day, set to take place at the end of this month.

It’s a chance for members of the different churches on the islands to come together before Easter.

The idea was originally thought up by Scilly’s Anglican chaplain, Canon Paul Miller and the retreat is being led by Catholic priest, Bishop Christopher Budd.

Bishop Chris says it’s open to anyone with faith on the islands and will provide some “time out” to escape from their everyday life for a few hours.

He says they decided to run it on Tresco because that island offers an opportunity to find some peace and solitude for those taking part.

And Chris says just the act of travelling to another island from St Mary’s gives the right impression that you’re getting away from your normal life.

The day will start with a short talk from Bishop Budd, followed by a chance for people to wander off and pray by themselves.

The group will be getting back together for lunch and there’ll also be a prayer service at the newly reopened St Nicholas Church at 4pm.

The retreat is taking place on Saturday 28th March and anyone interested should sign the list in the porch of the Parish Church.
