Bryher’s Hell Bay Is ‘Best Hotel In The Southwest’

hell bay hotelBryher’s Hell Bay is the Best Small Hotel in the southwest.

That’s the opinion of the judges who awarded the Tresco Estate-owned business the ‘gold’ in last night’s South West Tourism Excellence Awards, held at Weston-super-Mare’s Grand Pier.

Hell Bay gained silver in last year’s regional contest.

There were 425 submissions for the 20 different awards categories announced last night and each finalist went through a rigorous three-stage judging process of marking, visits and panel meetings.

Hell Bay Manager Philip Callan said he was “feeling proud” and that “the hard work has paid off.”

The hotel has been recognised consistently and won the Cornish Small Hotel title in 2013 and 2014.

Hell Bay has already been picked to represent the entire region in the national VisitEngland awards in May. They were highly commended in those English finals last year.

You are alone. Hell Bay has been transformed under Tresco ownership – witness the awards it is now winning.

All we need now is the restoration of a helicopter link.

And changing its name seeing as it is not in Hell Bay. I guess Stinking Porth would not draw in the same clientele though 😉

Good to hear of another Scilly award , although the cosy reception given in Sorrell Atkinson’s days of ownership still bring back fond memories of many sunny days on Bryher and the Hell Bay Hotel. Am I alone in thinking a transference of Tresco on to Bryher is not a step forward ? Apart from that fleeting thought , best wishes and congratulations to all concerned.
