Busy Cruise Ship Season Expected For Scilly

minerva cruise ship and harbourSt Mary’s Harbourmaster says his team will have their busiest cruise ship day to date on June 25th when 1,200 passengers come ashore from the Magellan.

And there will be extra help and assistance for disembarking visitors throughout this season.

Dale Clark has confirmed that 45 vessels are booked. And whilst a 46th ship has cancelled because its owner has gone bust, Dale says that agent Gerald Thompson is confident that another operator will fill that space by adding an extra visiting date.

Dale says the harbour team has given the Islands’ Partnership £500 to assist them in buying jackets, clip boards and materials for volunteers, who will act as an information point for cruise ship tourists.

His team will again concentrate on ensuring that the passenger experience is a good one and the Duchy will employ additional staff on cruise ship days.

The Marco Polo starts the cruise ship season on 8th April. It ends on 19th September with the Albatross.

We will certainly be the busiest cruise ship calling port in the southwest again this year and already have bookings in place for 2016.
