A St Mary’s chef has been invited to join a prestigious group only open to professionals at the top of their game.

31-year old Andrew O’Conner has been Head Chef at Juliet’s Garden since Spring 2011.

He’s been invited to join the Chef’s Forum as he’s become known within the sector for his regular use of social media, particularly Twitter, for promoting his menu and networking.

It means that Andrew will attend team building and idea exchange events with his counterparts.

He’ll also offer talks and demonstrations at colleges nationwide to inspire the next generation of chefs.

Andrew, who was runner up in the Lincolnshire Chef Of The Year Awards in 2006, is self-taught.

Before Scilly he was head chef at hotels in County Waterford and North Yorkshire.

He says it is an honour to be asked to join a private group, which includes big name Cornish-based Michelin award winners like Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth.

He’s looking forward to promoting Scilly and Juliet’s Garden and his passion for local produce through his new membership.

This year Andrew says he’s determined to use as many Scilly ingredients as he can.
