Council Warning Over Severe Weather This Week

flooding 2013_porthcressaThe Council is warning islanders to prepare for poor weather this afternoon and overnight.

The Met Office provides a special advisory service for the Town Hall and they’ve issued a wind warning of severe gales with the potential for gusts of 75 mph around southern and western coasts.

The warning takes affect at 3pm and continues until tomorrow evening.

They are advising the public of the risk of disruption to transport and possibly to power supplies.

Dan Marcus, who looks after the Council’s emergency response, says he doesn’t expect a flood risk because the tides are relatively low when the expected gales hit Scilly.

The Steamship Company has cancelled today’s sailing of the Gry Maritha. They say they plan to resume service on Friday 16th January and will endeavour to carry as much freight as possible then.
