Islanders Take Up Government Flood Grants

floods 2014 quaySeveral island households and businesses have taken advantage of financial support offered by the government following the floods and severe weather last year.

The Council was awarded £27,500 in March under the Business Support Scheme, designed to help companies meet the extra cost of flood damage, such as cleaning, hiring equipment like dryers and temporary accommodation to enable the company to continue trading.

Two island firms claimed under that scheme while a further fifteen obtained flooding business rate relief.

A second government scheme was designed to help homeowners make their property more resilient to flooding.

The Council says two homes have so far applied for £5,000 worth of Repair and Renew Grants and they anticipate a further two or three will apply before the deadline on 27th February.
