The islands are in the final of the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards.

There are twelve categories ranging from Best Reader’s Photograph to Best Beach and Best Heritage Site.

We’ve been chosen for the Holiday Destination of the Year award and we are up against the Outer Hebrides, Yorkshire, the Lake District and West Sussex.

The competition organisers asked experts to make recommendations for each of the categories and Lonely Planet Traveller Magazine put us forward.

They’ve highlighted our subtropical gardens, which they term spectacular, and Scilly’s safe waters that “wouldn’t look out of place in the Caribbean.” They go on to say that Scilly is unique and just attempting to reach the southernmost part of the British Isles is “half the adventure of the visiting.”

Tourism Coordinator for the Islands’ Partnership. Amanda Pender, says: “We are delighted to be nominated as one of the five top holiday destinations in the UK.

“Everyone who comes to Scilly falls in love with the islands so, in many ways, it comes as no surprise. Now it is down to the public to vote for their favourites in each category and of course, we are appealing to you to vote for Scilly as your favourite holiday destination!”

You can vote on the Countryfile website until 31st January.

The January edition of the magazine promotes the islands as the destination for the “post-Christmas blues” and writer Hayley Spurway refers to “a glittering archipelago on Cornwall’s doorstep.”

As a Yorkshire lass it grieves me to say that I have placed my vote, and yes, it goes to the Isle of Scilly.
