Council Appoints New Children’s Social Worker

childrens services signThe Council has appointed a new Children’s Social Work Manager.

Lynn Plummer will relocate from Somerset in the New Year. She’s held a similar position at the Taunton-based authority.

Council Officer Aisling Hick told Tuesday’s Children’s Trust Board meeting that Lynn “will make a huge impact on the islands” and she is experienced in “signs of safety.” That’s the approach that helps assess what support is needed for children to remain in the care of their families, or whether the child should be removed from the home.

Aisling says the Town Hall staff also aim to improve access to services for people who have suffered domestic abuse by working with partners in Cornwall.

And a mental health nurse will be recruited in the New Year to work with children and young people for two days each week. Aisling reminded the meeting that the Member of the Youth Parliament, 15-year-old Zoe Jenkins, had asked for more support for young people with mental health conditions.

It’s hoped that nurse will be in post by February.
