Tresco Church Refurbishments On Track For March Reopening

tresco st nicholas churchTresco’s St Nicholas Church will be lighter inside once the current refurbishment work is completed.

Church officials have decided to paint some inside walls an ivory colour, which they hope will contrast with the stonework and brighten the interior.

Islanders will have a chance to see the finished project on Sunday 8th March.

Canon Paul Miller says the only Church of England service on that Sunday will be on Tresco, to encourage people to travel over for worship and a celebration in the New Inn afterwards.

The work to re-slate the roof and deal with damp walls in the Grade II listed building is still on target for completion in mid-January, but Reverend Penny Prince says hopes that the builders would finish in time for Christmas services were too optimistic.

Whilst Penny is disappointed, full Christmas plans are now in place for a carol service in the Tresco Community Centre at 6pm on the 24th and a family communion there at 11am on Christmas Day.

St Martin’s worshipers will have their Christmas service on the 22nd at noon and the All Saints Church service on Bryher will be on the 21st at 9.15am.
