MP Wants Better Access For Islanders To Home Insulation Programmes

hugh town housesMP Andrew George says he’s been pushing for islanders to have access to low cost or free loft and cavity wall insulation programmes, available elsewhere in the UK.

Although mainlanders can receive this help in reducing their heating bills, schemes have never been offered in Scilly. That’s because it’s not financially viable for the approved mainland contractors to offer the service here.

Andrew says it’s an example of a national policy that doesn’t work in the islands because of our location and population size.

The Council is now collecting examples of locals’ homes, owned or rented, that require insulation and the MP says that will help his case.

Andrew says he’s trying to convince the government to relax their contractor requirements so qualified islanders can do the work, rather than have mainland firms come over.

If you want to register your interest in a scheme, if it becomes available in Scilly, you can contact Joel Williams at the Council on 424 880.
