Partnership Planning Special Christmas Shopping Event

christmas lights 2012The Islands’ Partnership wants your ideas on what you’d like to have included in a special seasonal celebration.

They’re planning a late night shopping event later this month.

While many mainland towns have been holding shopping evenings for weeks, the IP is reflecting Scilly’s lower-key approach in the run-up to Christmas, with a special evening two days before the big day, on December the 23rd.

Amanda Pender says they want to create a boost to local businesses and provide an activity for visitors here for the holidays. She says the Partnership is trying to grow the Christmas tourist market while offering a chance for islanders to “let their hair down.”

The evening event will run from 5pm to 7.30pm.

Amanda is hoping traders will do something special, with food or drinks to encourage people to come in and spend money locally.

And they’re keen for all Scilly’s residents to be involved, so plans for boats are being arranged from the off-islands.
