Five Islands School Seeking Two New Governors

school 2 2014The Five Islands School is seeking two new Governors to join their board.

Chairman Ben Julian says letters went out last week encouraging islanders with a child at the school to stand as a new Parent Governor, one of two that sit on the governing body.

Ben says that while no special qualifications are needed, they would welcome nominations from parents with skills in financial management and data analysis.

Training is available for all governors and it’s expected that those new to being a governor would attend free induction training. Nominations will close on 16th December.

The board is also looking for a new Staff Governor. That process has started and the closing date for candidates to come forward is 10th December.

If there’s more than one name for either position, a secret ballot will be held, which Ben says is likely to be in the New Year.

The governing body is responsible for setting the school’s strategy, holding the head teacher to account for the school’s performance and overseeing the finances.

And it could be an important time for the school, with a decision on whether to switch to academy status likely in the next year.
