Partnership To Take A Break From Tourism Superstar Awards

islands partnership team new brochure 2013Scilly won’t enter a Tourism Superstar candidate this year. The Islands’ Partnership had appealed for nominations but have decided not to enter the national competition, organised by Visit England and the Daily Mirror.

Last year St Mary’s Boatman Fraser Hicks made it through to the finals and it’s felt that the exposure generated valuable promotion for Scilly.

Amanda Pender of the Islands’ Partnership says the names of five strong candidates have been put forward but the tourism body has decided to wait until next year before they take part again.

She says it will be hard to repeat last year’s success a second time in a row and the Partnership would like more time to prepare a potential candidate.

Amanda says they’ll probably seek nominations earlier next year and spend time preparing the successful person for the interview process in London. That takes place in front of the camera and can be quite tough if you don’t know what to expect, says Amanda.

She’ll be contacting all this year’s nominees to thank them for their interest in going forward.
