Scilly Featured On Map Of ‘Curious’ Place Names

rude place name mapThe Isles of Scilly is featured on a new map that lists places across the UK with daft or double entendre names.

The ‘Marvellous Map of Great British Place Names’ features 1,400 towns, villages or geographic features.

Humphrey Butler of publishing company Strumpshaw, Tincleton and Giggleswick, has collected the curiously named places whilst touring the country and helped compile the chart.

His research included a trip to Scilly, mainly to St Martin’s, as well as poring over maps.

The mapmakers picked Jolly Rock, Hard Lewis Rock and Peninnis Head from Scilly for their publication.

And the Surrey-based Scilly Isles roundabout is also included.

Humphrey says Britain has a long tradition of this type of humour but it’s selling well overseas too, with orders from almost 30 countries.
