Discussion on Recycling Delayed As General Purposes Meeting Cancelled

rubbish dump 3Councillors are unlikely to have a public discussion on the introduction of household recycling and upgrades to the sewerage system on St Mary’s until the New Year.

The Council’s General Purposes committee, which looks after the islands’ infrastructure, was due to meet last Thursday but was cancelled.

A Council spokesperson couldn’t say why it wasn’t going ahead but they confirmed that no new date has been set.

They said the committee may have an informal get together, out of the public gaze, and wait until the next cycle of meetings. They added that no decisions can be taken at an informal meeting.

The next formal meeting is scheduled for 17th February.

The Committee Chairman Steve Sims had said that important infrastructure decisions, such as the roll out of the recycling pilot in Old Town to the rest of St Mary’s, were due to be discussed at the October meeting.
