Partnership Estimates Value Of Cruise Ship Passengers To Scilly

minerva cruise ship and harbourThe Islands’ Partnership estimates that the record 14,700 cruise ship passengers who visited Scilly this year have been worth £450,000 to our economy.

Back in September, at the end of the cruise ship season, Radio Scilly revealed that 2014 has been the busiest yet for visiting vessels with 39 ships coming here.

The tourism body says the sum doesn’t include the goodwill value of cruise passengers who choose to return for a longer break after experiencing Scilly.

This season, an Islands’ Partnership representative has gone onboard to greet the passengers and to hand out promotional materials and maps of the islands.

Tourism Coordinator Amanda Pender says the Partnership’s pro-active approach to welcoming cruises this year has been well received by both passengers and the operators.

Amanda says it is something that they’ll look to develop further next season, particularly with regard to on-shore support.
