A new director has been elected to the Islands’ Partnership. Oriel Hicks was voted on to the board at yesterday’s AGM.

In her election statement to IP members, Oriel explained that resident artists at her Phoenix glassworks pool resources for advertising and other costs and she feels this approach could be adopted for the islands as a whole.

Oriel feels that Scilly should aim for new challenges, then rise to them, so the ‘product’ doesn’t stagnate.

She doesn’t believe that we can just assume that Scilly being beautiful will always sell itself.

Also re-elected to the IP board were Steamship Company Chief Executive Rob Goldsmith, Duchy Land Steward Chris Gregory and St Agnes Boating operator John Peacock.

Sabine Schraudolph was not re-elected.

The directors appointed last year will serve for another year. They are Star Castle owner Robert Francis, Tresco marketing manager Alasdair Moore, businessmen Jon May and Euan Rodger and Sarah Mason who works for the Wildlife Trust.
