tresco flower count 2014Two Scilly businesses have made it to the finals of the LandLove Magazine awards.

And people are now being encouraged to vote in the online campaign, which uses twelve categories to determine the best things about the British countryside.

Tresco’s Abbey Gardens have been nominated in the ‘Britain’s Favourite Garden’ group.

The magazine describes its plants “shaped by towering palms, brightly coloured blooms and a myriad of treasures.” And it refers to the collection of shipwrecked figureheads at the Valhalla Museum.

It’s up against nine others in the category, including Cornwall’s Lost Gardens of Heligan, Barnsdale Gardens in Rutland, Beth Chatto Gardens in Essex and the Royal Horticultural Society Garden at Wisley in Surrey.

The Star Castle Hotel also makes the poll. Readers are being encouraged to vote for the hotel, which is described as offering “food that is talked about for miles around.”

It is up against five other hotels – the nearest is the Cary Arms In Devon.

Closing date for voting on http://www.landlove.com/awards is the 4th January.
