New Porthloo Slipway Ready For Raising Boats For Winter

porthloo slip1The Porthloo slipway is ready for boatmen to get their vessels out of the water after some adjustment to the front edge.

The winter storms washed away sand underneath the new 10 metre concrete slip, which was laid earlier this year to link the shoreline with the boat park.

It meant there was a drop-off, which concerned some boat owners.

Harbourmaster Dale Clark says he had promised to deal with the problem and last week a temporary fill of small stones and sand was used to cover the ledge so the surface carries on from the concrete to the beach without an edge.

Dale says if the original sand levels don’t return this winter, there’ll be a permanent fix of a concrete slope onto the sand.
