MP Expects Helicopters And Development To Lead The Debate

Scilly’s MP expects proposals for 120 homes, outlined in the Ash Future’s report commissioned by the Council, to feature in this evening’s debate on island issues.

Andrew George has arranged the public meeting, his second on St Mary’s this year, and he expects the Council’s planning and development strategy will feature in tonight’s discussions.

Based on recent correspondence, Andrew thinks that the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty reshaping will be up for debate too.

Mr George says he’ll be asking questions of Council officers about this, as there’s a sense that the importance of the AONB designation has been “downgraded” through changes in support offered to the organisation by its committee and the Council.

The MP also wants islanders’ feedback on how business is doing here.

Andrew says the mainland is seeing the “green shoots of recovery” but he wants to know how the season has been for island businesses.

Andrew has been a keen supporter of plans to restart a helicopter service and he’ll want to know how much impact the demise of the old operation is still having, as we come to the end the second season without the BIH service.

The public meeting will be moderated by Tim Guthrie and starts at 7.30pm in the Wesleyan Chapel.

All appointment slots for Andrew’s casework surgery today are now full.
