Updated: Police Search For Stolen Outboard Motor

police station 3

St Mary’s police said they were trying to find an outboard motor that they believe had been stolen off a punt.

Sergeant Colin Taylor says there is now a happy ending to this investigation.

It transpires that the engine was removed from the punt and placed carefully to one side underneath another punt and consequently missed by the owner.

Colin says it was not stolen and the circumstances of its removal are not suspicious. No criminal matter occurred and the investigation reflects that.

A call to the police by a member of the public helped clear up this matter and Colin says he’s grateful to them for taking the trouble to do so.

But he says it’s still good practice to ensure that engines are secure on boats as occasionally they are reported stolen, the temptation being just too much for some people. He also asks people to ensure your engine is marked somewhere and you keep the serial number.
