Macmillan Fundraisers Taking Place Today And Tomorrow

macmillan bannerYou’re being asked to support the work of a charity that helps islanders who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Macmillan Cancer Support is hosting their national ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Morning’ today. There are events at Speros on St Mary’s this morning and at Bryher’s Vine Café tomorrow morning.

Karen Johnson says the organisers would be grateful for any donations of cakes or pastries that they can sell in aid of the charity.

Karen says Macmillan provides support for people living with cancer and have been well established on the islands for years. She says they have a low profile and work “quietly under the radar” alongside the hospital and local GPs.

They can help with a range of services from pain control to emotional support. Karen says she found Macmillan very supportive when she was going through her own treatment.

Local businesses have been very supportive with raffle prizes and staff at Barclays Bank are going along to Speros.

They’ve previously hosted a Macmillan fundraiser but they’re still involved and the bank has agreed to match the money raised pound-for-pound.
