Holiday Survey Says Many People Don’t Know Scilly Is In UK

tresco from aboveA national holiday rental company is claiming that almost 2 out 5 British people don’t know that Scilly is part of United Kingdom.

Holidaycottages.co.uk, who don’t rent out any properties here, featured a multiple choice quiz on their website to test customers’ knowledge of Britain.

38% of respondents didn’t think we were in Great Britain.

Clare Wilcocks from the company says their customers fared better on identifying the Isle of Wight as British and nearly everyone knew that Scotland’s Isle of Skye was British.

But Amanda Pender from the Islands’ Partnership says awareness of Scilly appears to be building. Four years ago research by tourism consultants Blue Sail revealed that around 50% of people didn’t know where we were.
