Food forager Rachel Lambert is kicking off the event today

The first autumn Walk Scilly event starts today and one of the guided walks is already sold out.

All tickets for Rachel Lambert’s guide to food foraging on St Mary’s this afternoon have been snapped up. There are some minor changes – one of the history walk guides has broken her ankle, so new walk leaders have been drafted in.

The Islands’ Partnership have arranged the three-day festival and their Tourism Coordinator Amanda Pender says they’ll ask walkers about what they feel works best.

They’ll also encourage them to return for the weeklong spring event from April 11thnext year.

Amanda hopes that even if the turn out is lower than at Easter, the IP directors will let this late-season event grow, because visitors seem to appreciate organised activities.

She says advertising has been more low-key and sometimes it can take a few years for an event to take off with visitors.

You can pick up a copy of the programme at the TIC or download one here.
