Drinkers in Hugh Town had to go without their favourite beers on Wednesday after a group of thirsty visitors drank the town’s St Austell pubs dry of their draft ales.

There wasn’t a drop of Tribute, Trelawney or HSD left.

St Austell Brewery Marketing Manager Jeremy Mitchell says demand from a group of visiting Campaign For Real Ale members and the Scilly Swim Challenge participants outstripped supply.

Bryony Lishman who helped co-ordinate the 15kms of inter-island swimming on Saturday says she’s not entirely surprised as they were very thirsty.

Normal supplies have now been restored.
