Anyone who makes short films or videos about Scilly is being invited to show their work at a new event on St Martin’s this autumn.

Islander Warren Neil has joined forces with Seven Stones owners, Dom and Emily Crees, to launch the first St Martin’s Film Festival on the 3rd to the 5th of October.

Warren says he explored the idea several years ago, when he was introduced to a Cornish organisation who take projection equipment to remote locations in the county.

They couldn’t make it to Scilly at that time, so Warren has been finding the best way to offer screenings on the island without high licencing costs or red tape.

He said the new owners of the pub were keen to run a film night so they decided to go ahead and organise the three-day festival.

Warren says the idea is to start small and grow it in the future if it’s a success.

He wants to offer local filmmakers a chance to get their work screened and to talk about their inspiration.

That could be anything from YouTube clips to aerial footage obtained from the new helicopter drones.

Anyone interested in getting their footage screened should contact Warren on warren@tornandfrayed.net. There will be a large screen installed and digital projector, along with facilities to screen from any sources including websites and DVDs.
