The composer of some of Britain’s biggest pop hits received a round of applause when he was recognised in an of-island café on Thursday.

Phil Pickett has written top 10 songs for Sheena Easton, Donna Summer and Labi Siffre, as well as the band Sailor, which he was a member of.

But he’s probably best known as Culture Club’s keyboard player. He wrote some of the band’s best-known tracks including the global smash hit, Karma Chameleon.

That was playing on Radio Scilly when he called into a St Martins café for lunch and word quickly spread about who he was.

Phil says he got an amazing reception at Polreath Tea Room and says it’s lucky that he still enjoys hearing the track!
