Young Island Violinist To Play In Orchestra Concert

penzance string orchestraA young St Mary’s violinist will be given the chance to play with some of Cornwall’s best musicians this weekend.

The Cornwall Youth String Orchestra has invited 10-year-old Anna Garman to perform two pieces with them at their concert in the Town Hall on Saturday evening.

It follows a request to local violin and piano teacher Debbie Crane by the orchestra’s conductor Tim Boulton.

Anna started playing the violin three years ago, before she moved to Scilly. She’s played previously in the Cornwall Family Orchestra, including a performance at Plymouth Pavilion.

She’s looking forward to the concert and doesn’t feel nervous. Anna says she knows the two pieces “really well” and they should be fairly easy to play.

Mum Carolyn says she’s been practising all week and had a rehearsal with the orchestra on Monday. She’ll get one more run through on Saturday, before the concert.

The Penzance Youth String Orchestra has been playing in each off-island hall this week to packed audiences.

They’re performing on St Martin’s this evening before their finale on St Mary’s tomorrow.
