Scilly’s Brownies Enjoy ‘Totally Fantastic’ Summer Camp

Scilly’s Brownies enjoyed their trip to Foxlease Activity Centre in the New Forest earlier this month. Troop leader, ‘Tawny Owl’ Fiona Robson, says:

We had a totally fantastic time away on Brownie Pack Holiday.

Group A Tree climbingPictured are the two groups after their tree climbing. The tree was about 60ft high and most of them made it to the top. This was done at Foxlease as well as the bush skills for which they learned to light a fire, and make tent pegs. They also had to eat nettles.

The day trip to the New Forest Wildlife Park was amazing. We had a 2-hour tour through the New Forest on an open top double decker bus.

We then spent five hours at the Wildlife Park. We saw otters, owls and deer – the girls were allowed to stroke the fawn. We also saw lynx, wolves, and wild boar and a massive bison. There was a butterfly house and a British wildlife conservation area. Here there were baby badgers, harvest mice, hedgehogs and foxes, all very cute. As well as all this there is a great adventure play park so we really had a busy day.

Group B Tree ClimbingThe tour of the house was really good for the girls as it is full of historical items about guiding. One of the girls did think the photo of the queen was Lesley! The house was full of passageways and little stairways leading off to different rooms including an old chapel at the very top of the house.

All this could not have been achieved without the help of the excellent team of adults who helped – Lesley in charge of cooking, Sapphire in charge of the girls, Jo and Vicky in charge of outdoor activities, Jackie in charge of photography, and Rosie and Alison for helping to keep all the adults sane!

We hope to have an open evening during September for everyone to come along and look at our photos and talk to the girls about their holiday.

Finally a big thank you to all who sponsored us, bought hundreds of cakes, and put up with me asking for money!
