‘Bryher Bash’ Taking Place Today

bryher fete 2012The annual Bryher summer event is on today.

It’s not being referred to as the fete, because there won’t be live bands and some of the regular stallholders can’t attend. But organiser Kathy Stedeford is promising good entertainment and great food for anyone who attends the ‘Bryher Bash.’

She says you should expect a good time “because Bryher loves a party.”

The traditional Sunday afternoon fete set for earlier this month had to be called off when the tail end of Hurricane Bertha threatened to hit Scilly. Then the rescheduled date was changed again because of a clash with another event.

Kathy says that’s a shame because many regular visitors view helping out on the stalls and attractions as part of their summer holiday. But she says current holidaymakers are “rising to the occasion” with many offering their support.

Previous Bryher fetes have been arranged to pay off the cost of building and fitting out the new community centre. That’s complete now and today’s money raised will go towards upkeep of the facility.

Kathy says there were also things they missed out on the original plans, like heating, which were too expensive at the time. She says they’ll consider these ideas at their AGM in September.

Boats will be laid on from most of the islands for the event, which runs from 4pm to 8pm.
