More Open Air Theatre For The Islands This Weekend

festival players 2014It’s another weekend of Shakespeare in Scilly as the Festival Players perform Comedy of Errors at the Chaplaincy Gardens tomorrow and Tresco Abbey Gardens on Sunday.

The show has toured Wales, Scotland and England and director Michael Dyer says it is slick, colourful and funny.

And he says the all-male cast of six will perform the play as it would have been done in Shakespeare’s time, playing both male and female roles.

And it’s a complicated performance for the actors as two performers play two sets of twins.

Michael says the audiences always seem to enjoying seeing an actor run off in one role, to appear almost immediately as another character.

I you think you don’t like Shakespeare, Michael says you should still give it a go. He says it’s the nearest thing to a farce that the bard wrote and it’s not too long.

He says they’re lucky that Lord St Aubyn helps with the cost of bringing the play to St Mary’s and Tresco and they’d be pleased to take the show to another island if the costs could be underwritten.

The show starts at 7.30pm at the Chaplaincy Gardens on Saturday and at 6.30pm on Sunday on Tresco.
