Tresco cricket pitch

Report by Mark ‘Pixie’ Hicks

Thursday 14th AugustA calm sunny evening welcomed visiting St Mary’s CC’s arrival at Tresco, although they were still licking their wounds from the previous weeks close defeat to the home side – tonight, a must win in a 20/20 big bash slog out!

It did however prove to be quite the opposite with Tresco winning the toss, putting St Mary’s in to bat and taking 4 quick wickets for under 20 runs. The visitors battled through being bowled out for only 86 with Mark Hicks top scoring with 23 and the 5 Tresco bowlers taking 2 wickets a piece. D Goddard 2 wickets for just 11runs in 3 overs.

Tresco keen for a first ‘back to back’ win against the tourists came out all guns blazing with father and son duo Dave and Luke Hamilton hitting 23 off just 3 overs however, after an edge caught behind and some tight fielding, wickets fell and the run rate was diminished leaving a nail biting final over with 11 required for victory. But Mark Twynham’s tight bowling sealed victory for St Mary’s in the last few balls.

A great spirited and exciting game was once again deconstructed over and over, and washed down with a few sneaky drinks and curry in the New Inn.
