Lifeboat Called To Drifting Dinghy

lifeboat 2013_3The St Mary’s lifeboat under the command of Stuart Hitchens was launched at just after 9am this morning following a report that a 2.5m inflatable dinghy with no people on board was drifting between St Martin’s and Watermill on St Mary’s.

Lifeboat crew checked yachts anchored in St Helen’s Pool then recovered the dinghy at 9.35am.

They said there was no damage or evidence of a frayed painter, but discovered the name Saul written on one of the paddles.

Dan Bennett of Bennett’s boatyard on Bryher identified the owners as staying on Tresco. It’s thought they’d misjudged the height of the spring tide allowing the inflatable to drift away from the beach.

The lifeboat returned the dinghy to Tresco.
