Cricket: St Martin’s v Tresco

cricket playersReport by Colin Daly

Sunday 10th August was supposed to be the triangle tournament on St. Martin’s but due to the sea state St. Agnes could not get there. So it was decided to have a match with Tresco.

Tresco won the toss and batted first. A. Lawson top scored with 30 not out and there were useful contributions from A. Moore 23, L. Hamilton 22 and D. Hamilton 20.

The total was 135 for 6 in the 25 overs.

St. Martin’s had co-opted a couple of players from the campsite and it was felt that they should have a bat so they were sent in first. G. Clift was a young lad and it seemed cruel to send him out to bat at all against a hard ball until they started disappearing for six. It was something of a surprise that no other batsmen got a chance as the first two polished off the 136 needed in just over twenty overs. G. Clift was 99 not out and A. Arrowsmith 23 not out.

However a nice tea at the interval and eating our share of the burgers plus that of St. Agnes after the match washed down with iced drink helped soothe matters.
