Islanders Join New LAG Review Panel

economic development eco dev signThe new Local Action Group has appointed its members who will decide who receives up to £4m in grants.

The panel of islanders will assess grant-funding applications from business and community projects.

The amount of cash available hasn’t been decided yet but it will be somewhere between £1m and £4m. The Council is still waiting for details of the final funding settlement from Europe and the Local Enterprise Partnership.

Manager Sarah Taylor says there’s a good balance between male and female members and the business and public sectors.

Some of the members served on the previous LAG board.

Representing the community sector is Beth Hilton, Youth MP Zoe Jenkins, Mark Prebble from the Renewable Energy Cooperative and AONB Coordinator Rebecca Steggles.

Council workers Aisling Hick, Dan Marcus and Diana Mompoloki represent the local authority and join Cllrs Marian Bennett, Steve Sims and Richard McCarthy.

There’s also business sector interests represented by Keith Buchannan of the Rat Island Company, Buzza Tower Manager Andrew Combes, Vickie Heaney from Print Scilly, artist Oriel Hicks, Deputy Land Steward Luke Humphries, Ian Metcalfe of Scillonian Fayre, John Peacock of St Agnes Boats, Amanda Pender of the Islands’ Partnership, Mark Praeger from Ales of Scilly Brewery and Gill Reading of Tresco Estate.

Ned Rogers joins from the Farmers and Growers Initiative and Sabine Schraudolph who owns the IOS Country Guest House will also be on the new panel.
