Bayshill Cricket Club End 28th Tour Of Scilly

cricket playersA group of visiting mainland cricketers have ended their 28th tour of Scilly. And even though they ‘came second’ in all four of their matches, Bayshill Cricket Club say they will be back for more in 2015.

The Sunday friendly league club play in Gloucestershire but some of their players have gone on to county sides, playing for Somerset and Durham.

They’ve toured the islands most years except 2010, when they played clubs on the Isle of Man.

Tour organiser Steve Liley says the team like to play in different places and Scilly is their most popular option because the players enjoy taking boats to their matches, rather than cars.

He says cricketing standards have been improving in the three decades they’ve been coming.

Steve says there are good players on each island and the ‘cross bat’ technique used by islanders, which is rare on the mainland, works well here.
