Councillors have agreed to change the planning consent for the new Innovation Centre at Porthmellon.

Work has already started on the £1.5million scheme to redevelop the old wholesaler site into 5,000 square feet of office and workshop space, funded by European money.

But during the initial phases of the building, it was discovered that there were problems with the load-bearing capacity of the structure.

It means the roofline has been redesigned and four doors replaced with windows.

Senior Manager for Infrastructure and Planning, Craig Dryden, said the changes were minor and wouldn’t affect the overall appearance of the building.

He recommended them for approval.
