Walk Scilly Returning This September

walk scilly logo 2014Walk Scilly is coming back again and for the first time, there’s going to be an event held in the autumn.

Islands’ Partnership Coordinator Amanda Pender says this year’s event in April was incredibly successful, with almost every walk fully booked.

So they’ve decided to hold a smaller version over a weekend in September.

Amanda says it’s part of their plans for a ‘Super September’ promotion of the islands with a whole raft of events including top class comedy from Russell Kane and The Kernow King, as well as the Tresco and Bryher Food Festival.

Amanda says the islands can quickly go quiet in September, but she feels it’s actually an ideal time for walking.

There’ll be just eleven walks on offer, cherry-picked from some of the most popular guides during the spring event.

Amanda says their feedback shows that visitors like more general, all-day trips that include a bit of history, culture and wildlife, rather than those focussed on a specialist subject.

And island-based guides are also popular because they can bring that extra local flavour.

Even though it’s a smaller event, Amanda says they won’t skimp on quality, with a full programme being produced and staff from the Partnership and TIC on hand to help out.

There won’t be a big opening event because they want to focus on the walks, which include a stroll on St Helens, a wine-tasting trip to the Holy Vale Winery, a chance to see the sunrise over the Eastern Isles and a seashore safari.

The weekend starts on Friday 19th September and runs through to Sunday 21st.
