Winter Warmth On The Agenda In The Heat Of Summer

town hall flowersWe may be enjoying some of the warmest weather of the summer but councillors’ thoughts are already on keeping vulnerable residents warm this winter.

At last week’s Health and Wellbeing meeting, they approved continuing with the Winter Wellness programme, which provides advice on insulation and heating improvements to the community.

It also offers an emergency grant of up to £300 to help with heating costs.

The Council partners with Cornwall to deliver the scheme, which last year helped 17 islanders.

In her report, the Senior Manager for Community Services Aisling Hick said it was mainly older people who’d taken up the help, but it was open to all.

This year, they’d look to see if there were any people in the younger age group who were struggling to keep warm, by working with Children’s Services.

Aisling also requested an increase in the Isles of Scilly contribution to the scheme from £500 to £1,000, which was supported by members.
