Cricket: St Martin’s v Bays Hill

st martins cricket pitch sign 2Report by Colin Daly

Sunday 27th July saw a rare win for St. Martin’s when they played the Bays Hill touring team.

It was a mainly cloudy day but very warm. St. Martin’s won the toss and captain Barney decided to bat first in this 25-over match.

Tony and Dan Goddard made a steady start but then got out leaving J. Smith to score a useful 45 not out to bring the home team total to 129 for 5.

After a delicious tea, Bays Hill went in to bat but scored very slowly and never really picked up the run rate. They finished on 87 all out.

It was delightful to see Bays Hill on this their 30th (probably) visit. Match analysis and swapping of news proceeded at the Sevenstones on a warm summer evening.

‘Til next year Bays Hill!
