New Buzza Bus Contract Could See Service Upgrades

buzza bus 2014The contract to operate the familiar Buzza Bus service on St Mary’s is being put out to tender.

Chairman of Community Services Cllr Richard McCarthy says the current service, run by Age UK, has been a real success with over 900 journeys made each month.

He admits there were some reliability issues with the innovative electric vehicle when it was introduced in 2010 but those now seem to have settled down.

Richard says Age UK is likely to rebid for the contract, but the process is competitive and open to anyone, on or off the islands.

He doesn’t expect any decrease in the service level and even feels there might be some improvements, particularly in the hours the bus runs.

Richard says it’s important to check they’re still meeting customer needs.
