Cricket: St. Martin’s v St. Mary’s

st martins cricket pitch sign 2Report by Colin Daly

A touch of light drizzle just before the match on St. Martin’s made us wonder if the old tale of cricket causing rain was true. But not so – the clouds that had been building up melted away.

It was Thursday evening and St. Mary’s were visiting for a T20 match. St. Martin’s won the toss and decided to bat first. Although the home team had signed T. Ward as an overseas player just before the match, they knew that it would be hard to win against the might of St. Mary’s. Trev did his bit and top scored with 45 but a total of 106 did not seem enough.

St. Mary’s held back their star batsmen and some developing bowlers were used against them. Dan Goddard and A. Walder bowled out the opening pair at 14 and hopes rose of a rare win. When the more regular St. Mary’s batters came in, the runs started to come but wickets fell too. So with ten to win it was Jordan Miles with a 6 that turned the match and St. Mary’s left the pitch triumphant.

All repaired to the Sevenstones for post match refreshment and analysis.
