Scilly’s PTFA Has New Chairman

school 2 2014Scilly’s Parents, Teachers and Friends Association has a new Chairman.

Gareth Peters was elected onto the committee last week, along with Gillian Simmons as Secretary and Jo Legg.

When Gareth came to Scilly recently to take up a position in Adult Social Care at the Council he said he was determined to get involved with the community.

He has two children in the school and says he wanted to help.

Gareth feels the parents and friends volunteer group can make a difference to the pupils’ experience, adding value to the excellent work already being done in school.

He says the school has to stick to a budget and the PTFA can help with extras like events for the children and items for the library.

It’s also a chance for members of the public to contribute to the school.

The group is helping with today’s primary sports day and they want volunteers to assist with the secondary sports day on the Garrison on the 8th.

They’ll be in attendance at the ‘Blue Wave’ procession along The Strand on the afternoon of July 22nd. That’s the event where pupils will display maritime-themed sculptures, circus skills and perform samba music.

Gareth says anyone in the community can get involved with the PTFA and they’re always looking for willing volunteers to help out. You can contact Gareth via the Five Islands School PTFA Facebook page or through Treasurer Marian Gibson.
