Scilly’s Tourism Website Named Best In UK

visit isles of scilly website 2014The new tourism website developed by the Islands’ Partnerships is the best in the UK. has won the British Destinations Website Award for 2014.

The judges called it “outstanding” and said they loved the use of photography. They liked how easy it was to order a brochure and were also impressed with the electronic version of the guide, which features a ‘page-turning’ book format.

The judges commended the site for performing well on a range of devices including iPads and iPhones.

Islands’ Partnership Co-ordinator Amanda Pender is delighted with the praise.

The complex project was “a real team effort,” she says. Instead of bringing in a website builder from the start, Amanda says the staff asked the tourism industry what our visitors required from a website and what would best sell Scilly.

Cornish company Wolf Rock Marketing provided the vision for the site, which was built by Altcom in Penzance.

It’s designed to work better with search engines than the previous site, which it replaced.

From 8th May to 17th June, visitors to Scilly’s tourism site are up by 21% to 68,276 compared to the same time period last year.

Amanda points out that the improved, re-branded site has only been live for just less than 2 months and they are still looking at ways to improve its functionality.
