St Mary’s Lifeboat has been called out this afternoon.

Falmouth Coastguard says they received a call at around 2.45pm and RNLB The Whiteheads, was launched at 3.06pm.

An aircraft pilot saw that a yacht had fired a flare. He contacted Air Traffic Control who, in turn, called the Coastguard.

The vessel was around 10 miles northeast of St Mary’s at the time.

Although there was no radio contact with the yacht, St Mary’s RNLI press officer Steve Watt says it was identified as ‘Black Pearl.’

The lifeboat arrived on the scene at 3.40pm and began the tow back to St. Mary’s.
